How To Find A New Restaurant In A New City

If you’ve recently moved to a new city, it may be hard for you to find the right restaurant. Most major cities have a wide variety of great restaurants that offer a multitude of cuisines. You’ll find great Chinese restaurants in most cities China Towns or Italian restaurants in little Italy, but where do you go to find great Thai, Japanese, Korean, French or Middle Eastern restaurants? Luckily, there are lots of online tools to help you make the right choice. You can use google to search for some options but google isn’t great for finding restaurants. Some better options are urbanspoon, yelp, menupalace and restaurantica. These sites offer reviews of restaurants, pictures, and directions. A great option is fyood.com. Not only does it offer restaurant reviews, pictures and maps, it also has a very large selection of restaurant delivery and takeout menus. It currently has listings for Toronto, Vancouver, Richmond, Mississauga, Ottawa, Halifax, Calgary, Dartmouth, and New York City as well as some smaller Canadian cities.

If you prefer to get your restaurant information another way then local news papers are always a great option. They usually have great top 10 burger restaurant lists or top 10 cheap Chinese food joints lists. The free weeklies tend to be the best for that as they’re more tuned into the city then the tradition papers. The best to find a great restaurant however, is still through word of mouth. Ask co-workers, neighbours or anyone you know in the city where they eat and it will work out the best for you.

Summer, Fishing and Cottages

It’s amazing how depressing winter can be, but in a few short months summer will be here and it will be time to head up north to the cottage. There is nothing better then hanging out at the cottage in Ontario during the summer. The weather is beautiful, the lake is warm and the fish take the bait.

Ontario offers lots of places to go fishing, both up north and close to the city. Around Toronto, there is Frenchman’s bay in Pickering and rouge valley park in Scarborough. Both of these places are always filled with fisherman hoping to catch the Lake Ontario pike or sunfish which is much more likely. Other great fishing lakes are Rice Lake, French River and Trout Lake, but the lake won’t matter if you don’t know the fishing basics. You always need to know the right fishing rod and reel to use, the right fishing lures and baits to use and what to look for on the lake for the type of fish you are trying to catch. I usually fish for Largemouth Bass and I almost always use a top water bait like a jitterbug, not only is cool to watch but it makes an interesting sound as it goes over the water. It’s also really cool to see a Largemouth Bass strike the bait.

Anyway you look at it, summer is so much better then winter and I can’t wait until it’s back.
